It provides you with an opportunity to delve into one of the 35 prescribed questions and present your response using three real objects as evidence. Not only does the exhibition showcase your understanding of the subject matter, but it also allows you to demonstrate your critical thinking and analytical skills.

The exhibition consists of two parts: object presentation and a written commentary. Different schools do the object presentation differently, but the written commentary is structured similarly and this is what is graded in the end.

Title and Prompt

At the beginning of your document, create a bold and centered heading that states the prompt you have chosen. Make sure to include the prompt number for clarity. For example: “2. Are some types of knowledge more useful than others?”.

Introduction

While not mandatory, a concise introduction can provide a valuable framework for your exploration. Explain why the chosen prompt is an interesting question to explore, discuss your initial thoughts on the prompt, or highlight its complexity beyond superficial understanding. Keep this section brief, utilizing around 30 words to set the stage for your exhibition.

For example, a two sentence long introduction is sufficient to set the stage for the commentary: “Some types of knowledge can be considered more useful than others depending on the context and the goals one wants to achieve. The usefulness of knowledge can vary based on various factors, such as its practical application, relevance to specific domains or industries, and its potential to solve problems or create value.”

Object 1

Start by introducing an image of your first object, ensuring it is centered and approximately one-fourth of the page in size. It is essential to capture the image yourself rather than using an online source. Provide context for the image and explain how it relates to your real-world experiences. If discussing an object unrelated to personal use, describe its real-world significance.

Establish a clear link between the context of the image and the prompt question. Explain what your object suggests as an answer to the prompt and justify its relevance to the discussion. Emphasize how the specific real-world context of your object exemplifies the concept you are addressing.

Remember, the description of each object should be equally long, that is why we suggest to write 250-300 words for each part.

Object 2

Proceed to introduce the image of your second object, continuing the pattern established in the previous section. Elaborate on the context of this object and its connection to the chosen prompt. Ensure that the point you make using the second object differs from the one presented in the previous section, offering fresh insights and perspectives.

Object 3

Introduce the image of your third object, maintaining consistency in the format established earlier. Expand on the context surrounding this object and its relevance to the prompt. Like before, ensure that the point you make with the third object adds a unique dimension to your overall argument.

Conclusion

While not obligatory, a conclusion can be utilized to highlight, compare, and contrast the insights gained from the three objects. Synthesize your findings and provide a concise summary of the key takeaways from your exhibition. Remember, if you feel that a conclusion does not contribute significantly to earning marks, feel free to omit it.

A one or two sentence long conclusion is sufficient to wrap up the whole commentary emphathising the take-home message of the TOK exhibition. For example: “Ultimately, the usefulness of knowledge is subjective and can vary depending on individual goals, interests, and the specific context in which it is applied.”
