IB Mathematics Tutoring
At U4Success we offer IB Math tutoring for MYP and DP students
Mathematics is taught starting from the primary years program (PYP) through the middle years program (MYP) to the diploma program (DP) in the International Baccalaureate (IB).
About the MYP Mathematics
The IB Middle Years Programme places great importance on mathematics, encouraging students to develop problem-solving techniques that extend beyond the subject and are applicable in real-world scenarios. The MYP mathematics curriculum encompasses various areas including number, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, statistics, and probability.
The aim of the MYP Mathematics
The aim of mathematics in the MYP is to provide students with the knowledge, understanding, and other skills necessary for advanced mathematics courses, as well as to prepare those who will utilize mathematics in their academic pursuits, professional environments, and daily lives.Â
Mathematics is a fundamental course for the study of sciences, engineering, technology, and other fields.
The structure of the MYP Mathematics:
The structure of mathematics in the MYP is designed to engage and motivate students to learn its principles. By showcasing authentic examples of how mathematics is relevant and useful in their lives, students are encouraged to apply mathematical concepts to new and unfamiliar situations.
The MYP mathematics framework consists of two levels:
- Standard Mathematics: This level aims to provide students with a solid understanding of basic mathematical principles while developing the skills necessary to achieve the objectives of the MYP mathematics curriculum.
- Extended Mathematics: This level builds upon the standard mathematics framework by introducing additional topics and skills, offering greater breadth and depth of mathematical knowledge. Extended mathematics serves as a foundation for students interested in pursuing further studies in mathematics, such as the Mathematics Higher Level (HL) course, which is part of the IB Diploma Programme (DP).
About the DP Mathematics
The IB DP Mathematics is part of Group 5 – Mathematics. The course offers a rigorous and challenging curriculum that prepares students for higher education and real-world applications. It is designed to foster logical and critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
After the revision in 2019 the IB Mathematics course is divided into four distinct branches. These courses were designed to cater to the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students, while also meeting the requirements of different university and career aspirations.
The courses are:
- Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL (Standard Level)
- Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL (Higher Level)
- Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL (Standard Level)
- Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL (Higher Level)
As part of their diploma program students have to choose and study only one of the four courses.
